Lars Rosengren — I was born in and grew up in Sweden. At some point, I became restless and started exploring the world around me. I ended up in Japan, where I first went to university and later worked. I took a first degree in Business, then started working with strategic planning and business development for Anoto, a Swedish technology company pioneering digital handwriting.
Originally, I joined Anoto because I was intrigued with the digital pen and paper as a genuinely human interface. I made my work with Anoto a commitment to facilitating the realisation of digital handwriting.
However, in the process, I came to the conclusion that there were many unresolved issues with the concept and the product, which I could not influence from a business perspective. My interest in design grew deeper. I realised that the essence of any successful product or service lies in the human element that design brings — the integration of Design, Engineering & Business. As a consequence, I went back to Design school and took a second degree in Interaction design.
Throughout my work I have cross paths and worked with many entrepreneurs. I am passionate about human element that drives people think, create and build on what they believe in. After design school, I spent a couple of years building my own company, and shuttling back and forth between London and Silicon Valley — still my two favourite hubs of innovation and creativity.
In my current work, my main motivation is to work closely with talented people in design, engineering and business, and to contribute by bringing that human element and a hint of innovation into products & services with well applied design methodology.
At present, I work with a great team at Ustwo — "studio of dreams", in London.

I have worked with UX/digital design for about 8 years. Initially, I dabbled with HTML, built websites/blogs, and as part of my entrepreneurial ventures designed a few Mac applications. Over the past few years, I have been fortunate to develop a rich experience from working on a multitude of mobile apps to multi screen interfaces for professional trading systems.
Although I decided to take a step away from working with business, I have never regretted the learning experience from business school and from my great mentors at Anoto. It helped me develop an intuitive understanding for what great products and services are built upon. Great design and technology lie at the heart of any product development, but at some point a great recipe for a business is needed to make a product succeed. Therefore, I have great respect for the people I work with, who have a genuine understanding of their own business.
From day 1 at Anoto, I have had an intensive exposure to working with engineers from embedded software, to hardware design and manufacturing, and more recently web and mobile software. As a designer, I feel it is important to keep a clear focus on the people who use technology and the design that will communicate with them, but I have great admiration for skilled engineers and I believe the best design solutions can only come out of a great collaboration between designers and engineers.
Something that has always been at the heart of what I do, from business development to design — is an innate instinct to question the purpose of my work. Taking a strategic perspective on any project is key to good design and good business. Good design can never be built on the wrong assumptions. For each project that I work on, I always invest time in identifying the right design problem, before design the right solution.
